Installation and maintenance guide for greenhouse fixed film clamps

1、 Installation steps and specifications

The fixed film clamp system is usually composed of aluminum alloy or galvanized steel clamp straps and self-locking fasteners. The core principle is to apply uniform and adjustable pressure to the covering material through continuous clamps and locks.

(1) Preparation before installation

Material and tool inspection:

Clamp strap: Check if the length is sufficient, the surface should be smooth without burrs, and there should be no distortion or deformation.

Locker/Buckle: Confirm that the quantity is sufficient, the function is normal, and the spring plate has good elasticity.

Covering material: The greenhouse film or PC board should have been laid on the skeleton as required, and the position should be roughly correct.

Tools: Prepare a one-on-one clamp tightening tool (or manual tensioner), screwdriver, scissors or metal cutter, and safety gloves.

Environmental confirmation:

Choose a time when the weather is mild and there is no wind for installation, to avoid strong winds blowing the covering materials and increasing the difficulty and risk of installation.

(2) Standard installation process

Positioning and starting fixation:

Thread one end of the clamp strap through the fixed end of the fastener (usually with a slot or rolled edge).

Place the locking device on the leeward or side of the greenhouse frame (such as the arch pole), avoiding setting it on the windward side to reduce the direct impact of wind load on the locking device.

Use stainless steel self tapping screws or preliminarily fix the starting end to the skeleton through the structure of the locking device itself (if allowed by the design). Attention: Do not lock everything here.

Wrapping and tightening:

Press the clamp strip along the greenhouse frame onto the covering material.

Use a one-on-one tightening tool to slowly and evenly tighten the clamping band. During the tightening process, an assistant should smooth the covering material along the path to ensure that it is flat and free of wrinkles.

Key requirement: The tightening degree should be "tight but not excessive".

Too loose: The covering material will flap up and down under the action of wind, which is prone to wear and tear, and has poor sealing performance.

Tightness: It may cause excessive local stress on the covering material (especially the PC board) and lead to cracking, or damage to the clamping band itself.

Locking and fixing:

After the clamping band is tightened to the appropriate level, insert the movable end into the movable slot of the locking device.

Use the self-locking function of the locking device (usually a spring press or ratchet structure) to tighten it. At this point, you will hear a "click" sound or feel obvious resistance.

Double insurance: For areas with high wind pressure, it is recommended to use a stainless steel tie or a small clip to fix the tail of the lock in reverse after locking to prevent accidental loosening.

Trimming and Closing:

Cut off excess clamp straps with appropriate tools, leaving a margin of about 5-10cm, and do not cut them all at once.

Bend the tail inward to avoid scratching the covering material or personnel with sharp ends.

2、 Installation precautions

Avoid direct contact: There should be no hard direct contact between the clamp band and the greenhouse cover material. A layer of EPDM sealing strip or one-to-one pressure film tape needs to be placed under the clamp tape. This not only enhances the sealing performance, but also prevents the wear of the film and the fracturing of the PC board due to thermal expansion and contraction.

Continuity principle: The clamping band should be used continuously as much as possible to reduce joints. If connection is required, a one-to-one connection buckle should be used and the connection should be confirmed to be secure.

Angle processing: In positions with angles such as corners and ridges of greenhouses, smooth transitions should be made to avoid dead bends and stress concentration points.

Tightness review: Within 24-48 hours after installation, due to the initial creep and settlement of the material, it is recommended to conduct a comprehensive review of the tightness of the clamp and make necessary adjustments.

3、 Daily maintenance and inspection

Regular maintenance is the protection that extends the lifespan of clamps and covering materials.

Regular inspection cycle:

Weekly: Conduct a visual inspection for appropriate speed.

Monthly: Conduct detailed inspections.

After each bad weather (gale, rainstorm, heavy snow): inspection shall be carried out immediately.

Inspection and maintenance content:

Tightness check: Press the clamp band with your hand to check if there is still enough tension. During windy weather, observe whether there is any noticeable shaking or tapping sound of the covering material.

Lock status: Check if all locks are still in the locked position and if there are any signs of looseness, slipping teeth, or damage. Is the spring pressing still elastic.

Condition of the clamp: Check if the clamp has rust (for steel), fractures, cracks, or long-term deformation.

Contact point of covering material: Carefully inspect the covering material below the clamp for signs of wear, indentation, or cracking.

Cleaning: Regularly clean the dust, debris, and plant juice on the clamp strap and locking device to prevent them from corroding the components or affecting the locking function.
